Download Free: A Quest for the Perfect Roast: Control Loop Assessment Saves $900,000 Per Year
An advanced process control (APC) project was undertaken early in 2000 at CEZinc, a Noranda Inc. smelter in Valleyfield, Quebec, to maximize production on one of its four roasters. The application was implemented because variations in feed quality required frequent operator adjustments to the roasters, and an advanced controller would be more effective. The advanced controller relied upon eight separate regulatory controllers monitoring feed conveyor speed and various flows and damper positions. This single application was responsible for $900,000 in benefits per year.
