Modeling and Control of a Sugar Cane Crushing Mill

This paper presents dynamic control relevant models for a sugar cane crushing mill based on a combination of sound physical principles and phenomenological considerations. The sugar cane crushing mill is shown to have several difficult features including multi-variable interactions, pure time delays, non-minimum phase zeros and unstable open loop poles. The linearized dynamic models are used as a basis for determining the parameters for the existing proportional-integral (PI) controllers.
