Universal Connectivity
Matrikon's approach to connectivity deploys open standards such as OPC.
OPC is the industry standard for integrating the control layer with the
information / application layer. OPC drivers provide connectivity to all
common PLC, SCADA, DCS and Historian systems. MatrikonOPC
technology enhances flexibility and scalability through the integration of legacy
applications and solutions with newer systems and prevents systems from being locked
into vendor-specific proprietary standards.

Asset-Centric Data Model
Matrikon Mine to Port uses an 'intelligent asset and process data model that
incorporates a Registry, Data Directory, and Object Meta Model. The Intelligent
data modeling layer organizes data according to its relevance to the real world
in a model that understands material flows and interactions - the physical process.
The business logic is separated from the "plumbing", making it possible to simultaneously
apply different business processes without having to remake the model. Because all reports
and applications are driven from the same model of the facility and based on common
information, a single version of the truth is available to everyone, and application
maintenance efforts and total cost of ownership are significantly reduced.
Traditional data models tend to warehouse plant and process information in
disparate systems locked away from common access, and they become obsolete
