Preventing Data Loss with MatrikonOPC Redundancy Broker

Thursday, May 11

Are you prepared to bear the cost of lost critical data?

This webcast examines the issue of redundancy, and how it can be applied to the different levels of the plant network to achieve the highest degree of communication reliability possible. When critical systems go down, the loss of data can cost time, production, and compromise safety.

Use OPC TO Maximize Your Modbus Device

Wednesday, May 17

Learn how to leverage OPC technology to supercharge your existing Modbus device

This webcast covers the principles behind why and how combining Modbus and OPC technology provides users with a cost effective scalable system. Both Plant and Telemetry-SCADA technologies will be discussed.

What if there was a way to make upgrades that boost efficiency and optimize output through a "right out of the box" application and in a cost-effective manner? The answer for Modbus users lies in the merging of Modbus and OPC technologies. By taking a tried and true technology like Modbus/TCP, and paring it up with the robust optimizing power of OPC, Modbus users achieve completely scalable hybrid solution.

  • The purpose of OPC Genie technology is to standardize the way that information is broken up within the protocols and convert it to OPC. So, instead of contracting companies to write custom OPC interfaces, integrators can simply break-up their protocols using preprogrammed wizards.

Husky Builds Flexible Network with Standards Based OPC
Different controller protocols in each of Husky's new generation of injection moulding equipment, made device communication expensive and time-consuming for customer who relied on third-party software solution vendors.Without the resources or expertise to write their own drivers, they could not change their monitoring software without losing their connectivity to the Husky equipment, and so were limited to the solution the vendor could offer.

Discover how Husky eliminated this issue by standardizing on OPC.

Sibur-Tumen Uses OPC Redundancy in Critical Plant Application
Staff at Sibur-Tumen’s gas processing plant in western Siberia needed to integrate a process control system for their compressor station. To implement the project, Sibur-Tumen retained Sterling Group, a leading Russian integrator. In addition to providing a reliable, continuous connection, the required solution would have to connect 7,000 points.

    Ask The OPC Experts...

Question: If you install tunneller, does your OPC client try to talk to the DCOM Marshall, and does your tunneller intercept communications in it’s place, or is there required client configuration?

Answer:When an OPC client tries to communicate directly with an OPC server installed on a separate PC, Microsoft’s DCOM technology marshals the communication between the PCs. MatrikonOPC Tunneller is an alternative to typical DCOM communication. The MatrikonOPC Tunneller does not intercept the communication between a client and an external OPC server; it provides an alternative to the standard DCOM communication. Tunneller is installed on both the client PC and the server PC. Thus the OPC client speaks directly to the Tunneller client side component using COM communication. The client side Tunneller speaks to the server side Tunneller using TCP/IP. The Tunneller server side component speaks directly to the OPC server using COM communication. Thus Tunneller acts as a proxy between the client and the external OPC server without intercepting the DCOM marshaling. Do you have a question for our OPC Solutions Architects?
