The OPC Server for Wonderware InSQL (Industrial SQL) exposes historian data to the common, easy to use OPC DA and HDA formats. This enables users to access their historical and real-time data using a wide variety of available OPC-enabled analysis tools and applications.

Using the Wonderware Industrial SQL API, this OPC Server offers a secure, read-only link to InSQL databases on the local PC as well as remote PC’s.

This OPC Server includes features like:
  • Can connect to multiple databases simultaneously
  • Supports a wide variety of data aggregates such as Average, Count, Standard Deviation, and more
  • Includes the OPC Security specification, for additional peace of mind

MatrikonOPC is a Certified member of Wonderware’s ISV program.

Question:  I’ve got a pile of newer GE Fanuc PAC systems RX7i PLCs, and have been using your OPC Server for GE Fanuc PLC’s and so far everything has been great. One thing that I’d like to improve is round time data transfer. My setup currently has a pile of PLC’s and I need to connect a pile of HMI’s and screens. I need faster data! How can I turbo-charge my update rates?

 - Lagging in Louisiana

Answer (Sean Leonard, VP MatrikonOPC):
EGD uses connectionless UDP packets to communicate between the OPC Server and the PLC. This would be a better choice than the SRTP protocol for the situation you’ve described. It’s lighter-weight, and can keep faster update rates with many PLC’s as you’ve described. As of version 2.3, our OPC Server for GE Fanuc PLC’s now supports the EGD protocol.

Just saw this announcement on the Register, Iron-pumping Microsoft SQL Server due this summer regarding the new SQL server, code-named Kilimanjaro. One of the most popular topics on the blog is OPC vs. SQL.

Spotlight on Integrators

"To Succeed in This Economy: Think Outside the Box"

At this year’s Control System Integrators Association (CSIA) Executive Conference, presenting executives from successful integration firms agreed that to survive SIs must re-think how they go about doing business. Unlike the past, the "new" way of doing business calls for active marketing and lead generation, partnering with vendors, and extending service offerings.

Attending SIs confirmed the need to follow this advice and showed strong interest in the MatrikonOPC Integrator Partner Program which already implements these ideas and helps integrators win more business.
