It’s critical that network data moves quickly, safely and without limitations. The tunnelling concept is simple: provide all the benefits and advantages of OPC and COM and eliminate DCOM and it’s inherit problems.

Many companies use Husky’s equipment to create a wide variety of plastic products for the food and beverage, medical, automotive and consumer electronics markets.

Customers began asking Husky for complete turnkey solutions that would provide both equipment and plant monitoring capabilities. Plant monitoring software would provide customers many benefits, including the ability to access real-time equipment status, display trends, receive equipment notifications, visualize processes, view machine performance reports and gather data for analysis.

An article published in the July 2004 issue of Nuclear News outlines how the Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan, NY approached plant monitoring to ensure public and environmental safety. The infrastructure took advantage of the MatrikonOPC Server for SCADA Modbus where it was configured to interface with a SCADAPack RTU.

Modbus - IDAAs with many business operations, the internet has had a tremendous effect on plant operations and specifically the plant floor. The combination of Ethernet networking, OPC and the Modbus TCP protocol can be leveraged to bring tremendous value to the entire enterprise, from the plant operator to the VP of Finance.

Fred Cohn, President of Modbus-IDA examines how the combination of OPC and Modbus technologies can increase efficiency, minimize downtime, and improve the bottom line.

MatrikonOPC Buffer is designed to solve the problem of collecting data from devices which are geographically separate from their enterprise historian. It effortlessly captures data from plant floor and remote devices through an OPC server, organizes and cues it up before sending it to the enterprise historian.

Sounds like the DevCon went over well (I know the User Groups did, my travel woes aside). Now that the OPC UA specification Parts are being released, this year’s DevCon had more concrete presentations.
