Question:  Dear Mr. OPC Expert, I’m tasked with maintaining our automation software which occasionally freezes in the background without me knowing about it until an operator calls or someone comes across gaps in the archived data. Is there any way I could monitor the health of these automation applications without having to keep manually checking up on them?

Good news! There is a simple solution. Instead of monitoring key Microsoft Windows Performance Monitor status indicators manually, you can automate the process using the MatrikonOPC Server for Microsoft Perfmon.

This MatrikonOPC Server exposes all Microsoft Windows Performance Monitor (perfmon) counters through a real-time, OPC DA interface allowing you to monitor the health of the overall system (or a specific process) within your control environment.

This will give you the real-time information you need to pro-actively deal with upcoming problems. If you also archive this status data, you will be able to troubleshoot more effectively by having the long-term data needed to do perform root-cause analysis

To get started, simply install the MatrikonOPC Server for Microsoft Perfmon:
