The new MatrikonOPC Server for MarkV Direct supports direct connections to MarkV controllers via the Stagelink protocol over ARCNET cards. No longer are users chained to the GE TCI / Cimplicity box to achieve a connection to their GE MarkV controllers.

Unlike other GSM based OPC Servers on the market today, the MatrikonOPC Server for MarkV Direct offers an extremely high performance link to the GE MarkV capable of sub-second scan rates with a very simple configuration.

OPC helps maximize the return on process history investments. OPC not only provides a standardized mechanism for collection of real time process data, it also enables multi-vendor historical analysis solutions. OPC facilitates highly scalable multi-vendor distributed historian architectures. OPC Data Access (DA) and OPC Historical Data Access (HDA) are two specifications that can be combined to solve many of the process history problems.

In the late 1990's, a leading oil and gas producer, with interests throughout the eastern hemisphere, acquired an oil company that gave it a majority interest in new oil and gas reserves in the South China Sea.

The main problems that prevented them from transporting the data from the gas platform automatically were:
  • Unreliable communications to the platform
  • Slow data transfer rates
  • The need to conserve bandwidth

When I was writing my posting on “Open Standards and Vendor Neutrality”, I figured someone would bring up the old argument on how can OPC be considered an Open specification, if you have to be a member to access the documentation?

Automation professionals are frequently faced with a variety of connectivity challenges. Work with industry peers and OPC experts to learn how to take full advantage of OPC technology.
