Risk-to-Mission Assessment Process (RiskMAP)
As PCS networks are integrated with corporate business networks,
the need for inherently secure PCS increases. The must be designed,
implemented and configured to minimize vulnerabilities to cyber threats
and Risk assessment is key to improving system security. Network risk
analysis is typically done by technologists, while risk mitigation
decisions are made by managers.
RiskMAP is a process for assessing PCS risk and translating the results
into terms meaningful to multiple audiences. Adapted in 2006 under an I3P
task, funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, it secured the
Oil & Gas Sector from cyber threats.
RiskMAP draws upon Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Quality Function
Deployment (QFD) methods to create a "Business Model." It captures
priorities among corporate mission objectives and operational tasks, and
identifies the most critical information assets and network nodes.
RiskMAP combines user-provided network risk assessment results with tailored
roll-up rules to create a "Risk Model."
